Public lecture "Botschaften aus dem extremen Universum – Neutrinojagd im Eis und die Revolution durch Künstliche Intelligenz"
We are pleased to invite you to the public lecture
“Botschaften aus dem extremen Universum – Neutrinojagd im Eis und die Revolution durch Künstliche Intelligenz” (in German).
Christian Glaser (TU Dortmund, project leader in SFB1491 project F4) will take you to the ice sheets of Greenland and the South Pole, where researchers are building huge observatories to detect the most energetic neutrinos from space. Radio antennas buried in the ice listen for the short radio flashes produced when a cosmic neutrino collides with an atom in the ice. Because these events are so rare, artificial intelligence is becoming a key tool: it improves detector operation, data analysis and event reconstruction, and so shortens the path from measurement to discovery.
The lecture follows directly on from this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for Francis Halzen, awarded for his contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, and shows how the next generation of detectors will search for even rarer and more energetic neutrinos.

“Die unsichtbare Macht im All – Magnetfelder in Zwerggalaxien” (in German).
Sam Taziaux will take you on a journey through space, exploring the magnetic fields of the Universe and how they shape galaxies. The lecture focuses in particular on dwarf galaxies, the smallest and most common type of galaxies, which nevertheless play a key role in the formation and evolution of larger cosmic structures.
