Project Description
Research data management (RDM) plays a central role in a data-intensive research center such as CIM.
We aim at a standard RDM level throughout all projects within CIM taking into account that
full data and codes are often managed by larger collaborations.
For all publications and theses, analysis code, final data, meta data, and proper documentation will be stored at the dedicated CRC cluster to ensure long-term accessibility.
Here, our RDM strategy follows the FAIR principle: The data needs to be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
We are facing many challenges due to our interdisciplinary research with very different requirements, needs and outputs.
In general, two kinds of data are produced:
numerical data from simulations: of particular relevance for our RDM is the storage, versioning and documentation of the code developed in-house, while the complete numerical code packages are usually managed by the individual international development groups.
experimental data: our RDM has to ensure access to locally available data according to rules of collaborations, and provide the necessary software according to specific access rights.
The development and implementation of the RDM strategy and the provision of the necessary hardware are the main components of the central INF project.
